I spotted this cheeky little lamp by Ariel Rojo and think the combination of the two differing elements is genius! An energy saving bulb is attached to the piggybank like pig as if it were its tail, the play on ways of saving money is excellent and if you can help to save the planet a little at the same time what’s not to love?!

Lighting alleyways and small spaces is an important part of my MA project so looking into interesting urban lighting has been vital. The piece entitled DNA below is by Karim Rashid for Slide, an Italian product manufacturer. It may look like simple neon but it actually incorporates LED technology.
The piece is made up of 2m lengths that are curved and intertwined to resemble the structure of DNA. The photography is brilliant, the streaks of light created by passing cars almost mirror the light sculpture.
I chose this particular piece as it could be dropped into one of the alleyways on my site to completely change the dynamic of the space. Seeing this object in a more claustrophobic space would be extremely interesting. The reflections and light qualities would be completely different.
More images and information is available on the Contemporist blog.
The display is called The Stage or “Bokusho” and featured in the store over the new year. Particularly in these photographs, the display looks incredible. I do ask what it looks like when all the lights are turned on and wonder how much the display detracts from the clothes it is trying to sell!
The layering and translucency of the piece creates an almost ethereal effect. It seems a waste to just use this as a display, the name ‘The Stage’ itself almost suggests that is could have another use, particularly with the way it is lit and the sense of drama it has.
It was tough to find any information on this piece but for more images and a short film of the space, head over to the artless blog.
I came across this little gem when researching an essay on urban art. It is the best stop motion video I have seen in a while and I can’t even begin to imagine the preparation and hours of work it took to produce. So hats off to Dee Pee Studios for this award winning music video!
